Making Templates - Temporary and Permanent

This DVD demonstrates the basic approach to the use of templates as used in the panel beating industry.  Because of this the basic materials used are usually oxywelding filler wire (until recently this was always on hand, now a stock of soft iron wire may be required in most establishments), 'standard' body steel, brown paper and various kinds of cardboard that may come to hand from packaging. These materials are variously used to produce temporary and permanent templates. These then serve one of two purposes. Either the checking of a profile or the marking out of an area and shape required for fabricating a panel section.

This presentation is the DVD component of a self-paced, competency based, learning package. This demonstration is one in a series dealing with the operation and maintenance of GMA welding machines as used in the automotive crash repair industry. As such, it specifically deals with the operation and adjustment of a typical machine used for the butt welding of 1 mm body steel. Specific attention is given to alternative methods of 'tacking,' 'push' and 'pull' welding and determining a suitable amount of penetration for the method of repair.
