Braid hair

Evidence of braiding dates back to 3200 BC. Uncovered tombs belonging to groups such as Egyptians, Assyrians etc. revealed that they, possibly for religious or status purposes, use to shave and cover their heads with braided and non-braided wigs. The braided wigs were set in stiffening agents such as bees wax. The art of braiding has been passed down through the centuries. In Africa, braiding styles have been used to distinguish different countries, regions and tribes. By the 1960s, braiding became (particularly with African Americans) a way of expressing cultural identity and individuality in society. Braiding styles incorporate cornrows and hair extensions that were considered to be modern. The use of ornaments such as beads, shells, rings, charms etc. also became popular.
