Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment

When you commence employment in a Hair, Barber, Beauty or Nail Salon or if you are an employer within this industry, it is important for you to know there are workplace laws that apply to all employees in the national workplace relations system. Before hiring a new employee, the employer should make sure that they know about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Work Act 2009: Regardless of how the business is set up, the employer is still required to provide their employees with the wages and conditions set out within an enterprise agreement or through the modern award.

Maintain and organise tools, equipment and work areas

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to maintain, organise and clean tools, equipment and work areas to ensure a clean and tidy client environment and the hygienic and safe provision of hair services. Complex and scheduled maintenance would be referred to specialist service technicians.

This unit applies to all hairdressing and barber businesses and to hairdressers and barbers working at all levels. Advise on beauty products and services

Clients today are often bombarded with information on how to improve their appearance using a range of cosmetics and services. As well, technology innovations are updating cosmetics, cosmeceuticals and equipment. The cosmetic surgery sometimes overlaps with services offered by beauty therapists and certainly competes for part of your market. And the spa and well-being industry is growing. So how do you stay up to date and provide reliable information to your clients? Some of the clients that visit your workplace may know exactly which product or service they want, but most will seek your advice on which product or service best suits their requirements. You will have to decide which product or service is most appropriate and then convince the client.
