Dry hair to shape

One of your roles as a salon assistant may consist of drying hair to shape as directed by a supervising hairdresser. Within a busy salon or barber shop environment, your supervising hairdresser /barber may call upon you to dry their client's hair. This will enable them to continue or start to provide service to another client. This assistance you provide will contribute to the salon or barber shop environment running smoothly and becomes particularly helpful when a supervising hairdresser/barber is running behind schedule. Some clients prefer not to have their hair blow-dried due to likes/dislikes or cost. As professionals we should respect their decision. However, most clients would appreciate a complimentary dry-off if required as a part of salon /barber shop policies and procedures.

Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment

When you commence employment in a Hair, Barber, Beauty or Nail Salon or if you are an employer within this industry, it is important for you to know there are workplace laws that apply to all employees in the national workplace relations system. Before hiring a new employee, the employer should make sure that they know about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Work Act 2009: Regardless of how the business is set up, the employer is still required to provide their employees with the wages and conditions set out within an enterprise agreement or through the modern award.
