Description

Orthopaedic nursing involves caring for clients with disorders of the musculoskeletal system and can range from simple broken bones, to multiple fractures from trauma such a motor vehicle accidents, to chronic bone and joint diseases. Orthopaedic nursing covers the full spectrum of the life span. Orthopaedic nurses practice in any and all situations where clients with musculoskeletal disorders receive care, including acute care, out client surgical, extended care and home and community environments.

Practise in First Line Emergency Nursing (Advanced Diploma HLT07)

An Enrolled Nurse may encounter an emergency in a variety of settings and situations. This unit will guide students through the process and skill requirements to increase knowledge and the ability to ‘practice in first line emergency nursing’. Students will need to revise their knowledge of anatomy and physiology and have a current resource available as they work through this learning guide. Students will need to assess client’s signs and symptoms, learn to monitor for changes and consider actual and potential problems and/or responses as they occur. The knowledge and skills described in this competency unit are to be applied within jurisdictional nursing and midwifery regulatory authority legislative requirements. Enrolled nursing work is to be carried out in consultation/collaboration with Registered Nurses and under direct or indirect supervisory arrangements in line with jurisdictional regulatory requirements.
