GMA Welding - Machine Maintenance (Panel Beating)

This presentation is the DVD component of a self-paced, competency based, learning package. Gas Metal Arc (GMA) welding has been rapidly replacing the oxyacetylene sets in Automotive Panel Repair workshops for a considerable number of years. Some manufacturers have produced machines that specifically cater for the thin sheet steel used in that industry. This video DVD deals with the operator maintenance required on such a machine.

Edge Relieving (Panel Beating)

This presentation is the DVD component of a self paced, competency based, learning package. A step by step explanation of the theory and practice of edge relieving in thin sheet mild steel.  Starting with an "oil-canning" piece of steel we are introduced to the concept of stretching the material in the appropriate places by hammering.  Flattening out by means of a flat faced wooden mallet is then followed by plenishing with a steel plenishing hammer.

Oxyacetylene Welding - Butt Fusion Welding - Thin Sheet Mild Steel

An instructional demonstration at a beginners level of the butt fusion welding of 1 mm and 0.8 mm sheet mild steel using oxyacetylene with and without filler rod. The demonstration covers flame adjustment, tacking methods, torch angles and sequencing. The demonstration concludes with examples and causes of several common faults that may occur during the learning process. These include a degree of penetration, build-up, craters, pin holes and undercutting.
