Description

These resources are designed as content-based learning materials focussing on the world of work in Australia. The aim is to introduce learners to real Australian workers and present them with information, personal viewpoints, anecdotes and human interactions thereby allowing them to understand the world of work in Australia while they develop their language skills. Nick explores the world of work through the occupation of a handyman. It also explores everyday household problems from the perspective of a handyman, a house owner and a tenant.  It includes a wide range of spoken and written communication activities as well as numeracy practice. Each guide has a DVD showing Nick at work and procedures relating to his daily work, a CD of audio recordings, worksheets of activities, teachers' notes, Answer Keys and Transcripts of audio recordings. These are available to purchase individually or as a complete pack (including Levels 1, 2 and 3). The complete pack is presented in a plastic moulded box.

Let's Present - Oral Presentations for ESL Learners

This DVD consists of examples of oral presentations to be used with intermediate ESL learners who are learning how to give a short talk to a group. The DVD consists of 5 oral presentations, each about 5 minutes in length. They take place in a variety of settings - the workplace, the community and further education - and show different styles and levels of formality. Four of the presentations are 'good models' and one shows what not to do. The talks can also be used as listening exercises to check comprehension. It can be used with any intermediate level ESL learners but will be particularly useful for Certificate 3 in Spoken and Written English - Can deliver a short oral presentation - Can demonstrate understanding of an oral presentation; - Certificate 3 in English Proficiency (Stage 2) - Oral Presentations. The accompanying CD ROM contains supporting materials to use with the DVD.

Sounds Right, Looks Right

A guide to the sounds of English for reading and spelling, with a focus on strategies for effective and on-going learning, ‘Sounds Right, Looks Right' is written for anyone wanting to get a better grasp of the English language sound system. The style is non-‘academic' and the examples used generally come from everyday vocabulary. It is designed for English as a second language learners who may need literacy support, in particular students in levels 2 and 3 of the Certificate in Spoken and Written English, or the Certificate in English Proficiency, or equivalent. It may also be useful for secondary school students or adult learners who need support in improving their word-decoding and spelling skills. Get Your Ls - ELS Driving Rules

Get your Ls is a resource pack designed to prepare future drivers for the learner's licence test. It is designed to supplement and not replace official government publications like the "The Driver's Handbook" 7th edition, published by the South Australian Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure. These resources have been developed for recently arrived adult migrants for whom English is an additional language and may have difficulty in reading and understanding existing print-based resources. They are also suitable for use with a range of other learners who may need additional literacy support whilst preparing for their Ls eg secondary school students, indigenous learners, longer term migrants and English speaking background learners in adult literacy programs.
