Description

These resources are designed as content-based learning materials focussing on the world of work in Australia. The aim is to introduce learners to real Australian workers and present them with information, personal viewpoints, anecdotes and human interactions thereby allowing them to understand the world of work in Australia while they develop their language skills. Nick explores the world of work through the occupation of a handyman. It also explores everyday household problems from the perspective of a handyman, a house owner and a tenant.  It includes a wide range of spoken and written communication activities as well as numeracy practice. Each guide has a DVD showing Nick at work and procedures relating to his daily work, a CD of audio recordings, worksheets of activities, teachers' notes, Answer Keys and Transcripts of audio recordings. These are available to purchase individually or as a complete pack (including Levels 1, 2 and 3). The complete pack is presented in a plastic moulded box.

Work in Oz - Jobs - Let's Begin Post-Beginner Level

This unit introduces the topic of learners' jobs in their country and the jobs learners would like in Australia. Some work should have been done previously with vocational vocabulary, matching pictures of occupations with words etc. The selection of jobs discussed in this section covers mostly unskilled jobs requiring low levels of English. This includes an audio CD.

Let's Present - Oral Presentations for ESL Learners

This DVD consists of examples of oral presentations to be used with intermediate ESL learners who are learning how to give a short talk to a group. The DVD consists of 5 oral presentations, each about 5 minutes in length. They take place in a variety of settings - the workplace, the community and further education - and show different styles and levels of formality. Four of the presentations are 'good models' and one shows what not to do. The talks can also be used as listening exercises to check comprehension. It can be used with any intermediate level ESL learners but will be particularly useful for Certificate 3 in Spoken and Written English - Can deliver a short oral presentation - Can demonstrate understanding of an oral presentation; - Certificate 3 in English Proficiency (Stage 2) - Oral Presentations. The accompanying CD ROM contains supporting materials to use with the DVD.

Work in Oz - Jobs - Beginner Level Resource Book and Beginner Level Appendices

This is a compilation set including a resource book and appendices as well as a Power Point Data CD and a Audio CD.  Resource Book - This book uses an incremental approach designed for pre-literate and low literacy beginner ESL learners. Each unit follows a standard format to provide learners with a predictable framework to enhance their learning; it commences with a narrative and comprehension questions then interactive pair work and group work where learners share and practise. The emphasis on interaction is a major strength of this book.
