Practise in the Domiciliary Health Care Environment

Nursing is a diverse profession and not all nursing occurs in hospitals. Nursing in the domiciliary care environment is not necessarily hospital work transferred to the home. Domiciliary care occurs in the context of the Australian health care system and this greatly influences the characteristics of domiciliary nursing as a discipline. Nursing services, in relation to the domiciliary health care environment, may include regular and ongoing care, or care on a one-off basis in the client’s home. Coordination of care with other home care providers may fall under the nursing jurisdiction or may be facilitated through allied health professionals using a case management system.
