The Clinician (supervising RN) is required to assess the student’s competency. Competence is defined as the combination of skill, knowledge, attitudes, values and abilities that underpin effective performance in a profession. This competency requires the student to develop competence in the role of the circulating nurse. A student studying "Practise within the Perioperative Nursing Environment on Clinical Placement" is required to keep a Clinical Placement Logbook. It is an official record of Orientation to the Clinical Placement venue and attendance. It also provides objectives and guidelines to enable the student to successfully complete the Clinical Placement.
